Northern Guilford [middleschool+highschool]

The middle school at Northern Guilford, while many of its features were highly sustainable and state of the art, definitely lacked the energy and stimulation necessary to inspire and encourage creativity. Signage was one of the biggest elements that stood out to me because of the informal and non permanent aspects they held. The graphics throughout the space were a good start but could be taken to higher level. The day lighting was nice but seemed to be not completely thought out and there were hardly any views of the outside since most of the natural lighting came from above.

High school:

The High school in my opinion had many more creative endeavors than the middle school. There was much more color and different types of lighting fixtures as well as creative elements added by the students ( such as the art gallery and the mural). The "musical bells" even added a sense of outside the box thinking and the atrium took away the sterile institutional feel found in traditional schools. Circulation in this space is still a problem as the school is quite large with different wings and it is hard to tell where you are at sometimes.
